Understanding Islamic Fiqh empowers you to practice your faith correctly and navigate daily life according to divine guidance. Our comprehensive Fiqh course is designed to help students learn the practical rulings of Islam, from worship to transactions, enabling you to fulfill your religious obligations with knowledge and confidence.
Fiqh refers to Islamic jurisprudence, the detailed understanding of Shariah (Islamic law) and its practical application in daily life. The word “Fiqh” means “deep understanding” and encompasses rulings on worship (prayer, fasting, charity, pilgrimage), personal matters (purification, diet, clothing), family law (marriage, divorce, inheritance), business transactions, and social conduct. Fiqh is derived from the Quran and Sunnah through scholarly methodology, and different schools of thought (madhahib) have developed authentic interpretations. Studying Fiqh means learning not just what to do, but why, based on Islamic sources and principles.

We offer instruction in multiple schools of thought including Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i, Hanbali (the four Sunni schools), and Ja'fari (Shia school). You can choose which madhab to study based on your family tradition, community practice, or personal preference. Each school is valid and based on authentic interpretation of Islamic sources. Our instructors are trained in comparative Fiqh and can also explain differences between schools when relevant. If you're unsure which to choose, your instructor can help you decide based on your circumstances.
We primarily use authentic classical sources including Seerat Ibn Hisham, Seerat Ibn Kathir, and authenticated Hadith collections from Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and other reliable works. We carefully distinguish between authentic narrations and weak or fabricated stories that have unfortunately entered some popular Seerat books. Our approach emphasizes historical accuracy while making the Prophet's life accessible and inspiring. The goal is to know the real Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) based on sound evidence, not mythology or exaggeration.
Basic Arabic terminology is helpful but not required to begin. Our instructors explain all concepts in English while introducing the key Arabic terms used in Fiqh literature. However, if you plan to study Fiqh at an advanced level or read classical texts, learning Arabic becomes increasingly important. Many students take our Basic Arabic Language course alongside Fiqh to enhance their understanding. For practical, everyday Fiqh knowledge, English instruction with Arabic terminology is completely sufficient.
Studying Fiqh formally with a qualified scholar provides several advantages over self-study. You learn the evidences and reasoning behind rulings, not just the conclusions. You can ask questions specific to your circumstances and get personalized guidance. You understand the principles (usul) that generate rulings, enabling you to approach new situations correctly. You learn to distinguish between strong and weak opinions, and when there's flexibility versus strict requirement. Most importantly, you avoid misunderstanding or misapplying rulings by having expert guidance throughout your learning.
Yes! While we study classical Fiqh principles and rulings, our instructors explicitly address contemporary issues like online business transactions, cryptocurrency, insurance, mortgages, modern medical procedures, social media usage, and other current matters. You'll learn both the traditional rulings and how Islamic legal principles apply to modern contexts. The goal is to equip you with the knowledge and methodology to navigate 21st-century life while remaining faithful to Islamic teachings. Our scholars are well-versed in both classical texts and contemporary Fiqh discussions.
